AU RP Undying Phenomenon

First topic message reminder :

Undying Phenomenon

About this RP
  • This is an alternate universe role play for a reason: the character you choose to play as can die! Watch out for that.
  • If you want to participate, just post right now in character, accepting the shopkeeper's plea. Once I got a good head count, this quest can begin! RP has started! Contact me through PM or other means so we con discuss how to introduce your character. It shouldn't be too much trouble. Chances are, it'll be simple as walking in. :3
  • This thread will be using my RP System. You can read all about it here!
    If you just want to see what steps to take to create a character, look over here!
  • But for now, it's okay to post as a character even without his or her stats created. If you commit an action that requires a check, I will roll with the appropriate modifications for the default Familiar, Uplift, or Dreg.
  • I will allow redistribution of omega points if some choices show to be less useful or if you change your mind. Don't be afraid! This is untested after all!
  • I will make a character sheet for your character if you ask! Just tell me about your character and I will fill in the most appropriate things for it. Or, just tell me what play style you like. You can PM me and we'll work it out. (want to be a good spell caster that heals; a fighter; sneaky; etc.)
  • Birds and flying animals are allowed! I don't know if I had to say that, but there you go!
  • RP replies can be a descriptive or short as you want them to be. It's totally okay to switch between them if you find yourself with more or less time.

    >Talk to that chicken guard over there!
    >Loot that wardrobe!
  • I encourage role playing with the NPC and fellow players. See how far you can steer the story and explore things!
  • Feel free to "try out" this RP. If you don't like it after a while, or can't keep up, you can PM me and I put him or her on a bus!
  • And if the RP system proves to be inadequate or cumbersome, we can abandon it and just try a normal RP.


We begin our tale in darkness.

"Well, it's come down to this."

Just ahead of you flows a heavy sigh. You look atop a counter and see remnants of jars, used plates, and a stack of lids. In the middle lies a fox terrier, the owner of the general store you've been holding up in for five days.

Five days. It's been that long. You can still hear them. Their terrible moans. The damned walk the streets of Chervil, a renowned town of prosperity in the up and coming Anise Kingdom.

To keep hidden, the terrier insist limiting any light source that could attract attention. Tonight seems different, however. The terrier lights a lantern. While the flame still flickers, he looks at you.



He breaks eye contact only to look at his collie wife and pup daughter. He states at you again. "I don't think they're coming back." He's referring to the poodle and iguana that left three days ago. "And, well, frankly, I think we should consider more active options. We need to find help.

"I don't know what it is, but I feel you're our best chance to get out of this mess."



The store owner then hands over an unkempt handkerchief with unnatural stains. "In case of an invasion, this market street is suppose to evacuate to the nearby book building. I think you should look there.

"Do your best."

Some Extra Info You Might Want to Know

The Kingdom of Anise (formally a Province of the Great Mage Empire) lies in the Kinon Continent. It's capital is (the former metropolis) Hemlock, and, although some parts of the city remain condemned, it still hosts the law and order of this new animal kingdom. While other lands allow bartering and sometimes honor Silver Crowns, Anise is quick to readopt the old currency exchange, thanks in part by the more influential Familiars missing the ways of their old masters' way too much.

Anise is mainly a grassland biome.

Chervil is just one of the many prosperous towns of Anise. This landing is mainly populated by Uplifts, although its more powerful noble clans are headed my Familiars and their kin. You can even spot an Old One once in a while, along with a Dreg maybe. Chervil has a booming industry in food, entertainment, and skillful business!

But one of its big annual draws is Undying Festival. Local legends tell that every year before fall turns to winter, the surrounding landscape becomes alive with the utmost undead...the Damned! Pockets of these poor souls would plague the outskirts, and so the townspeople must party them to death to let them sleep another year! This local carnival has gone to become an yearly attraction to the whole Anise! This celebration is filled with candy, snacks, parades, and parties, and lots of gothy costumes and rum! Expect many scandalous costumes form the foxy ladies and...foxy men...and some great designs and wonderful feasts and feats of entertainment! Nothing's ever dead in the Undying Festival!


And one more thing: I'm really sorry if all the text here or in my RP System page looks daunting. I'll try to trim the text down from here on out. ^^;;

His mind was ringing. Hearing another groan, he wondered if he'd faint again.
Kettle placed a hoof on the plank reassuringly as if it was a friend needing comfort.

You made your way to the public hall of the theater. Immediately to your right you see the double-door entrance to the auditorium. To your surprise, the doorway showed signs of a past attempt at being barracked, but job was unfinished. With tool and nail, you try to fortify the door so that none of those monsters get out.

You fortify the heck out of that door! Your sturdy plank and the extra wood made for a strong blockage for the captive audience. The noise from your work caused several of the damned inside to investigate and attack the door. Luckily your craftsmanship will keep them from breaching through.

The hallway your in as a number of doors and avenues to explore. The left wall opens with the closest fork, followed by two public lavatories. To the right (after the auditorium entrance), you see a small door before the wall opens up to a more dramatic runway.

Also, I'm gonna make the hammer into an [acc.]:

Special: Can be equipped as a [weapon] for +1 DMG.

I retroactively added the bonus to the check, but it really didn't change anything. (The roll was already a complete success.)

The Club room perked Kettle's interest. It seemed the right idea to check every room as he went, for supplies (which may or may not be alcoholic). He held on to his hammer with his mouth, and approached the opening.

You see a tattered room that was once the main serving area for the performance house. A 60th Annual Undying Festival of Horror Shows loosely wraps around itself between two overturned tables. A sizable portion of the room is split by a grand bar counter. Like the mini bar upstairs, the back shelves are empty of its contents. You barely notice the entrance to an entirely different room behind the counter.

Suddenly you're zapped by a shrink ray--

The room you're in now is the kitchen. This area is crammed with many industrial machines to prepare culinary treats in any way imaginable. At the opposite corner, you spot a storage facility where any ingredients that still exist might still reside. To your right you see another door that leads outside.

It was strange to think that this place might have been well stocked a week ago; being so barren. Kettle glanced at the other door in the corner of his eye as he approached what looked like a closet space for food. He tried to convince himself it wasn't a trap. Maybe a meal would help end his trembling.

The Uplift approached to enter the storage room... but stopped before touching the door, not convinced to take the risk for food.

Instead, he tried surveying what was past the exit door.

You find yourself in an alleyway, faced with a stone pillared fence of the park next door. Iron bars top the fence, each spiked to emphasis the use of proper entrances.

The mourns of the undead echo though the falling dusk, but most sound too far away to be of worry. You see silhouettes scattered across the park as well. The closest figure is closer to the park center, facing away, and lacks back skin.

Although your view is obscured by two waste containers, you can see right though both ends of the alley. You also spot an odd platform to your right.

As there was no particular reason to make his way into the park to be eaten quite yet, Kettle focused on the platform. He was about to go for it, before recognising the waste bins beside him. The goat felt encouraged that he could possibly make a running leap up onto (or into) them.

Your dives did not disappoint. Your first dive yield you some discarded auditorium seats that could come in handy (2 planks) as well as a relatively nice apple core to munch on. Your next dive brought back an old but harvest-able piece of backdrop (3 planks), as well as an iron chain (admittly a little sticky due to grub slime. It's a dumpster, after all). You found a pretty good pie piece too!

Kettle felt at home in the rubbish bins. It almost seemed he had done this before-and in fact, he had, but this was one of the few times Kettle actually extracted garbage for necessity's sake, and not as a habit learned from growing in a cheap fix-it family.

He swallowed a SANITY PILL along with the apple core, keeping the pie for later. With the support of some of his horn-like growths on his back, Kettle could carry the five boards and chain, although they would fall off easily if he had to run.

The platform is a metal lift. It hugs the theater wall with two sturdy iron pillars and cogs, ribbed and aligned to carry the stand high above to the rooftop. After the Cataclysm, many prominent architectures had these installed for easy access where ladders once were for humans. This lift looks in working order, with no problems on the start button and lever. Sharing space with the control panel, however, is a socket for a rather abnormally large key. The machine will not respond too much without it.

The goat calmly tried to manipulate and ram the contraption to get it working without a key. This was not his specialty, but it was worth a try.

You head back into the theater, just as a few damned began hugging the park edges (disturbed by your racket from dumpster diving and gear bobbling).

You look at the door. It has a tiny window on top but it's too high to see over. Unfortunately, the door is locked.

Kettle mused over building a stool or ladder to peek into the window, but scrapped the idea, and continued down the hallway. He focused on the restrooms with wary hope.

You begin your servery into the restrooms. You begin with the left one. You enter a chamber with an empty center, followed by rows of counters on each wall. These "seats" have holes with switches to activate the magic-steampunk-hand-wave plumbing system. By far, this is the cleanest water closet you've seen in your life (even in a situation like this)!

You see practically the same thing in the other restroom. A little dirty, with a fowl stench covering the room. You almost gagged.

The stench caused all sorts of questions to rouse in Kettle's head. Though rather than stop and ponder it, he kept his body movement in highest priority.
