First topic message reminder :

Undying Phenomenon

About this RP
  • This is an alternate universe role play for a reason: the character you choose to play as can die! Watch out for that.
  • If you want to participate, just post right now in character, accepting the shopkeeper's plea. Once I got a good head count, this quest can begin! RP has started! Contact me through PM or other means so we con discuss how to introduce your character. It shouldn't be too much trouble. Chances are, it'll be simple as walking in. :3
  • This thread will be using my RP System. You can read all about it here!
    If you just want to see what steps to take to create a character, look over here!
  • But for now, it's okay to post as a character even without his or her stats created. If you commit an action that requires a check, I will roll with the appropriate modifications for the default Familiar, Uplift, or Dreg.
  • I will allow redistribution of omega points if some choices show to be less useful or if you change your mind. Don't be afraid! This is untested after all!
  • I will make a character sheet for your character if you ask! Just tell me about your character and I will fill in the most appropriate things for it. Or, just tell me what play style you like. You can PM me and we'll work it out. (want to be a good spell caster that heals; a fighter; sneaky; etc.)
  • Birds and flying animals are allowed! I don't know if I had to say that, but there you go!
  • RP replies can be a descriptive or short as you want them to be. It's totally okay to switch between them if you find yourself with more or less time.

  • I encourage role playing with the NPC and fellow players. See how far you can steer the story and explore things!

  • And if the RP system proves to be inadequate or cumbersome, we can abandon it and just try a normal RP.


We begin our tale in darkness.

"Well, it's come down to this."

Just ahead of you flows a heavy sigh. You look atop a counter and see remnants of jars, used plates, and a stack of lids. In the middle lies a fox terrier, the owner of the general store you've been holding up in for five days.

Five days. It's been that long. You can still hear them. Their terrible moans. The damned walk the streets of Chervil, a renowned town of prosperity in the up and coming Anise Kingdom.

To keep hidden, the terrier insist limiting any light source that could attract attention. Tonight seems different, however. The terrier lights a lantern. While the flame still flickers, he looks at you.



He breaks eye contact only to look at his collie wife and pup daughter. He states at you again. "I don't think they're coming back." He's referring to the poodle and iguana that left three days ago. "And, well, frankly, I think we should consider more active options. We need to find help.

"I don't know what it is, but I feel you're our best chance to get out of this mess."



The store owner then hands over an unkempt handkerchief with unnatural stains. "In case of an invasion, this market street is suppose to evacuate to the nearby book building. I think you should look there.

"Do your best."

Some Extra Info You Might Want to Know

The Kingdom of Anise (formally a Province of the Great Mage Empire) lies in the Kinon Continent. It's capital is (the former metropolis) Hemlock, and, although some parts of the city remain condemned, it still hosts the law and order of this new animal kingdom. While other lands allow bartering and sometimes honor Silver Crowns, Anise is quick to readopt the old currency exchange, thanks in part by the more influential Familiars missing the ways of their old masters' way too much.

Anise is mainly a grassland biome.

Chervil is just one of the many prosperous towns of Anise. This landing is mainly populated by Uplifts, although its more powerful noble clans are headed my Familiars and their kin. You can even spot an Old One once in a while, along with a Dreg maybe. Chervil has a booming industry in food, entertainment, and skillful business!

But one of its big annual draws is Undying Festival. Local legends tell that every year before fall turns to winter, the surrounding landscape becomes alive with the utmost undead...the Damned! Pockets of these poor souls would plague the outskirts, and so the townspeople must party them to death to let them sleep another year! This local carnival has gone to become an yearly attraction to the whole Anise! This celebration is filled with candy, snacks, parades, and parties, and lots of gothy costumes and rum! Expect many scandalous costumes form the foxy ladies and...foxy men...and some great designs and wonderful feasts and feats of entertainment! Nothing's ever dead in the Undying Festival!

Since the left room wasn't so stinky, you took a little more time in this area. A thorough scrubbing revealed this room to be well stocked with soap and professionally tidy.

Your survey into the second saw the reason for such a nasty odor: a handful of these stalls are not flushed. The, er, inventory of these holes have since dissolved into liquid form, and their combine stench reeks beyond tolerance! The magic pipe-system seems to be broken, which explains the buildup. All the fecal matter point to a carnivore person.

The old goat wiggled his nose and coughed. The stench had him worried that a zombie had been hiding in the stalls. This was... somewhere close to zombies on his dislike list, but not quite as bad.

No longer curious over the possible left-behinds, Kettle aimed directly back for the last opening on the right side of the theatre hallway. He walked quickly but heavily, warily, not sure what to expect of this unknown section.

You turn straight into a slanting corridor. Ahead of you lies the entrance of the backstage area, its doorway open, showing two smaller doors. There is another open fork just to your right.

Kettle's heart pounded at the creeping danger, marked in red. The slanting hall seemed to twist out of shape as he thought he heard something close by.

You dash through the first door you come close to. You barge into a dressing room to be greeted by a startled reflection of yourself. A moment gives you a calm to asses your surroundings. There are five little stools in front, followed by a counter littered with all sorts of cosmetics. The organization around the room does not fair better, as it's littered with costumes bits and pieces.

The next room sees a similar dressing room, albeit a little more cramp. Even more costumes and props litter the space. The makeup counter is smaller, and there are twice the amount of garment racks surrounding you.

Regarding checks (and especially >Identify):

I didn't really like how I explained them on Sunday, so I sat down and chartered some rules for myself. Disregard what I said on chat. I'm not sure how much of the mechanics I should tell, but I'll write a few points here:

+ Checks will be used where there is a chance for failure..
+ Checks can be as simple as a pass-or-fail basis, or have a varying degree of success or failure.
+ For [Identity]:
- Checks will be necessary if the intrigue is hidden or obscured. Otherwise a simple lookaround will do.
- Players must initiate >[identity] checks (pretty much how it was in the beginning ^^;;); only in special situations will the Totality of Game let's-just-go-with-Game-Master--only in special situations will the Game Master roll.
- "Key Items" are objects needed to progress through the rp story (aka Plot Coupons). These usually will not need a check to find.
- The lever key will still not need a check. (It's because of how and where it's placed.)

You take a better look at the backstage. The blood plot and trail stand as startling features. The most interesting vista, however, is the boarder of planks and crates that hover around the curtains. There are still large gaps between the different points, especially the two large gaps near the blood plot, separated only by a tiny fortification (the two planks above spot).

To the long corner, you notice two doors: a large, brooding one, right near the blood spot; and a smaller one further down from it.

You try to look further down the backstage, but a background prop blocks your view.You do, however, notice an anomaly similar to the lift outside.

Kettle gazed at the curtains; it was a clever barricade, not considering the alarming gaps. He crept forward along the backstage, making sure to keep quiet, as this area especially amplified his noises. I feel like they're watching straight through the curtain, he shuddered, holding his hammer on standby.

The most distant area (with the lift-like object) was his next destination. In theory the keys could be held there, which drove him on.

You begun to sneak through the backstage. Thoughts race through your mind about the horrors lingering on the other side of the curtains; thoughts to the image seen peering from the balcony below, and how that mess cab repeat itself if you're not careful. Your mind snaps together to notice how much progress you've made so far.

Suddenly, you find yourself at the center point of the backstage. The floor is littered with scraps and miscellaneous material. It's haphazard around the blood splat. You move on, trying not to make too much noise.

You make it to the other side without any problems. Ever. At all. I don't think your hooves even touched the ground.

You look around the spacy area. The barricade is a lot more complete here. It's also a lot less messy. There's a broken mop and a bucket in a corner.

There are two doorways near you (or three if you include the prop entrance). Another length of corridor adds another door and another area to investigate. This area at least seems to have boxes and a table or something.

Finally, your attention shifts to the lift. Even when you were surveying, you couldn't the position of the lift: lowered. This model seems to connect the backstage to a lower quarter. You can't really make tell of the room below. The height difference and iron landing make hopping down dangerous for the encumbered. Like the machine outside, this has an unusually large keyhole that needs to be fitted for working order. Disappointingly, no key seems to be present.

You find yourself in another dressing room. This one is a private room. Its cabinet is cleanlier than the last rooms', and their clunky wooden stools are replaced with a single comfy pillow. Overall, a more fancier atmosphere.

What immediately caught your eye, however, is an outfit on a single stand. It seems very elaborate. You can see this catching many gazes for whoever wears it.

You also see a letter on the floor, next to the outfit.

The garment was expertly crafted; for a moment Kettle wondered who made it.

"Unfortunate that anyone would take a long journey to get here, only to be welcomed by..." He hoped this person never made it to Chervil at all, or at least hoped she found safety.

You see a normal looking room. Comfy, spotless, and spacious. Undistributed by the world's horrors.

Just to the side of the cabinet is a discard welcoming basket. It's empty now, save for some roots and a tiny bit of core (apple?).
