First topic message reminder :

Undying Phenomenon

About this RP
  • This is an alternate universe role play for a reason: the character you choose to play as can die! Watch out for that.
  • If you want to participate, just post right now in character, accepting the shopkeeper's plea. Once I got a good head count, this quest can begin! RP has started! Contact me through PM or other means so we con discuss how to introduce your character. It shouldn't be too much trouble. Chances are, it'll be simple as walking in. :3
  • This thread will be using my RP System. You can read all about it here!
    If you just want to see what steps to take to create a character, look over here!
  • But for now, it's okay to post as a character even without his or her stats created. If you commit an action that requires a check, I will roll with the appropriate modifications for the default Familiar, Uplift, or Dreg.
  • I will allow redistribution of omega points if some choices show to be less useful or if you change your mind. Don't be afraid! This is untested after all!
  • I will make a character sheet for your character if you ask! Just tell me about your character and I will fill in the most appropriate things for it. Or, just tell me what play style you like. You can PM me and we'll work it out. (want to be a good spell caster that heals; a fighter; sneaky; etc.)
  • Birds and flying animals are allowed! I don't know if I had to say that, but there you go!
  • RP replies can be a descriptive or short as you want them to be. It's totally okay to switch between them if you find yourself with more or less time.

  • I encourage role playing with the NPC and fellow players. See how far you can steer the story and explore things!

  • And if the RP system proves to be inadequate or cumbersome, we can abandon it and just try a normal RP.


We begin our tale in darkness.

"Well, it's come down to this."

Just ahead of you flows a heavy sigh. You look atop a counter and see remnants of jars, used plates, and a stack of lids. In the middle lies a fox terrier, the owner of the general store you've been holding up in for five days.

Five days. It's been that long. You can still hear them. Their terrible moans. The damned walk the streets of Chervil, a renowned town of prosperity in the up and coming Anise Kingdom.

To keep hidden, the terrier insist limiting any light source that could attract attention. Tonight seems different, however. The terrier lights a lantern. While the flame still flickers, he looks at you.



He breaks eye contact only to look at his collie wife and pup daughter. He states at you again. "I don't think they're coming back." He's referring to the poodle and iguana that left three days ago. "And, well, frankly, I think we should consider more active options. We need to find help.

"I don't know what it is, but I feel you're our best chance to get out of this mess."



The store owner then hands over an unkempt handkerchief with unnatural stains. "In case of an invasion, this market street is suppose to evacuate to the nearby book building. I think you should look there.

"Do your best."

Some Extra Info You Might Want to Know

The Kingdom of Anise (formally a Province of the Great Mage Empire) lies in the Kinon Continent. It's capital is (the former metropolis) Hemlock, and, although some parts of the city remain condemned, it still hosts the law and order of this new animal kingdom. While other lands allow bartering and sometimes honor Silver Crowns, Anise is quick to readopt the old currency exchange, thanks in part by the more influential Familiars missing the ways of their old masters' way too much.

Anise is mainly a grassland biome.

Chervil is just one of the many prosperous towns of Anise. This landing is mainly populated by Uplifts, although its more powerful noble clans are headed my Familiars and their kin. You can even spot an Old One once in a while, along with a Dreg maybe. Chervil has a booming industry in food, entertainment, and skillful business!

But one of its big annual draws is Undying Festival. Local legends tell that every year before fall turns to winter, the surrounding landscape becomes alive with the utmost undead...the Damned! Pockets of these poor souls would plague the outskirts, and so the townspeople must party them to death to let them sleep another year! This local carnival has gone to become an yearly attraction to the whole Anise! This celebration is filled with candy, snacks, parades, and parties, and lots of gothy costumes and rum! Expect many scandalous costumes form the foxy ladies and...foxy men...and some great designs and wonderful feasts and feats of entertainment! Nothing's ever dead in the Undying Festival!

Exiting the room, he wanted to call out for this missing person, but instead kept quiet.

You immediately rush inside the door in the corridor. You slightly tilt by the angle this area leads in. It's a U-shaped ramp that leads downwards to a basement level. The passage ends in front of a large, red-painted metal gate. It's sturdy and well built, and strongly thick. And doesn't seem broken. With some effort, it'll let you in.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAA I misread my map! There isn't a gate there! Well, there is actually, but not right there. I'll update this momentarily.





Stepping into the door in the corridor leads to a small ramp. It breaks into a downward u-turn to a hall beneath the corridor. The strong stench of death makes you pause. It's followed by thumps of movement and bone-crunch gnawing. Your vantage point lets you see it all: the carnage of an unidentifiable attendant(s) and the reanimation that did it (them?) in. The monster's back is turned and seems too busy horror-show nomming. And just beyond that thing is a heavy looking iron gate.

Your other eye spots something near the hallway's dead-end: a bag! It looks flat and not burden with a load, but the chance of salvageable items can Is that a keychain!? There's a keychain on that bag!

Kettle was struggling with a strategy, especially so close to danger. It could be that the key was his best chance to continue his trek safely, or perhaps it was a lost cause. He couldn't budge or turn away. Maybe there was a chance to steal the prize behind this snacking fellow. Or, attack first...

Kettle braced his teeth against his pick's handle.

You successfully taken the keys without notice. Once you returned to your original spot, you looked over what is assorted.

The keychain has several typical looking keys, some looking more cleanlier than others. One key, however, strikes you really odd: It's the largest key, and it's abnormally shaped and girthed, with a single tooth at the end of the blade. Looks to be made to fit unusually large keyholes.

Whew. That went a lot better than expected, Kettle thought. He put the keys in his bag and plodded up the ramp, hopeful to leave the sights death and cannibalism behind only as repressed memories.

You approach the loading door. It's a heavy door made of metal. It's a bit corroded. It also has little cruddy wheels to help it slide to the left (if you were facing it). It's kept shut by a lock and chain.

The lock and chain become unhinge. Trying the door gives you a sample of how wonky and unfitted it truly is. It'll take effort, but it should give in.

The door shuddered disjointedly until it reached its booming endpoint. You step outside.



You are at side ally of the theater. A dumpster greets your nostrils with spoiled meals and cast away prop material. Ahead of you lies another building with a fenced off back-storage. On your left (if you were facing the other building), you remembered the lane of shops and businesses and the shop you tucked away in is still there. You briefly remember Hector and the others are still in his shop, hiding too.

The left ally exit goes to another row of attractions. You remembered it's a pedestrian zone and you glimpsed at it during your stay at the town. Suddenly, you hear mournful cries and trouble...!

Tinctus finds himself at a troubling standoff. The undead creep around him, ready to sink in. No creature has yet severely wound the thylacine, be it a damned or a hostile survivor. His resilience is about to pay off.

Standoff

He has had quarrels before, specially when he wandered through empty ruins, but never did he see creatures so defunct as these walk, let alone in a suburban place such as this.
Besides being all new to him, he had no knowledge of what happened to these tottering animals, being far from his reasoning to even consider them walking dead. They seemed ill creatures in a dire attempt to feed.

Tinctus considers his chances first, analysing his first potential opponent, taking as a main option the break through the circle towards south, giving him a chance to escape if necessary.
He'd fight his feeble adversaries one by one but a strange friendly motion in the distance makes him think otherwise. They surely can't run in this condition... his biggest upper-hand is actually speed. With this in mind and preparing carefully, he makes a run for it, forfeiting direct conflict; for now.


(That'd be... Bad guy #1 to the Eastern South).

Everything happened at once. The frantic movements of the undead make it too difficult for Tinctus to survey a single monster. All he got from his quick glimpse is that this damned had a huge cavity in his belly region. It lacks a stomach and yet it hungers!

Nevertheless, the predator braced himself and dashed out of the circle. Unfortunately, one of the dead (#5) saw an opportunity and unleashed its maw!

The Damned only caught air. Tinctus proved too speedy. Still, it won't be long until the dead ones start their real pursuit. He had to think fast!

Just then, Tinctus spotted something odd; a goat figure seems to be gesturing at him from a corner. His rugged coating could have fooled a quick peek as another damned, but his expression and lively tone become quite noticeable. In fact, Damned #1 seemed to notice too.

Now that Kettle made himself known to two beings, he felt something akin to stage fright. His survival instincts were insisting he flee for higher places, but for now, he stayed.

In a crackle, he pried a straight, sharp horn off his own body. It seemed to have an aura like the one that surrounded his eyes.

In that very instant, that he saw the strange aura form in front of this newcomer spellcaster, Tinctus was suddenly frightened. He thought he'd be a target.
He thrust towards the stranger aggressively, but right before he'd do anything rash, did he notice that he was not the mark, but one of the strange decaying adversaries.

He stopped next to the goat without saying a single word, and faced the aggressors as a determined bulwark. Little could he do without magic.
Oblivious to understand the dangerous predicament he was in, he waited for his sudden companion to take lead in this inhospitable area, ready to fight otherwise.

Just then the mysterious thylacine stands in front of the goat. He hunches and snarls at the undead, ready to take all of their frenzy.



The damned begin to make progress. Their screeches are followed by attempts for blood!
